DONALD WALKER

Session Clerk

Donald was born in Moffat, educated locally and brought up on the family farm. After gaining a Scottish Diploma in Agriculture and a few years' experience, he went to Zambia to manage various farms until returning to Moffat in 1992.

While there, and during the ensuing period, Donald gained broad experience in the construction industry. He was inducted as an Elder in St Columba’s Church, Lusaka in 1977, although says it was through dire shortage of candidates rather than his suitability.

He was Property Convenor here at St Andrew’s around the year 2000, when the major roof repair took place, and still remains very keen to update the Church interior with a view to increasing the weekly attendance at our services.

He is married to Ann and has two daughters and one grandson.

KATHARINE DURRAN

Musical Director

Katharine Durran was born in Berkshire, brought up in Edinburgh and studied at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music. As one of most versatile collaborative concert pianists of her generation, she spent many years touring, performing, broadcasting and recording nationally and internationally. She was head of keyboard studies at Camden School, north London, and also taught for several years at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, before settling in Moffat with her young family in 2002. In recent years she has developed her skills as a choral director and teacher of singing. As well as running her own music teaching practice she currently teaches whole-class singing in primary schools throughout Annandale. Kate has musical experience over the widest spectrum of church traditions and liturgies. A member of both the Incorporated Society of Musicians and the Association of British Choral Directors, she is a strong believer in the power of whole-congregational singing to play an integral part in the life and work of the worshiping community. During the school holidays Kate enjoys camping with her children, long-distance walks, sea-swimming and overland travel. And during school terms, when time allows, she enjoys being involved as a family in productions at Moffat’s Old Well Theatre.
